Description and objectives:

The goal of IMOCO4.E is to provide vertically distributed intelligence from the device layer to the cloud for actively controlled machines, robots and other cyber-physical system, which face increasing requirements for long-term energy efficiency, size, speed of motion, accuracy, adaptability, self-diagnostics, secure connectivity and new human cognitive characteristics.

IMOCO4.E strives to perceive and understand complex machines and robots, focusing on two main pillars: digital twins and AI (machine/deep learning) principles. These pillars are based on the framework and methodology of the I-MECH project, adding new tools to layer 3 that provide a global view of the system, from the intial design to its complete lifecycle. For effective employment, completely new demands are created at the lowest layers of the control systems, which cannot be handled routinely by commercialy available products.

On this basis, the mission is to bring intelligence to the instrumentation and control layers, to analyze and process the machine data in the feedback control loops layer and in this way synchronize the digital twins with the simulated or real-time physicial world. AI techniques can be employed at all levels.

In summary, IMOCO4.E seeks to offer a reference platform composed of AI toolchains and digital twins and a set of coupled building blocks for resilient manufacturing applications. Optimal energy efficiency and easy (re)configurability, traceability and cybersecurity are crucial. The benefits of the IMOCO4.E reference platform will be directly verified in semiconductor, packaging, industrial robotics and healthcare applications.
