In the era of the smart factory, machines must be capable of exchanging information with MES, ERP, and other man\u00adagement systems to enable real-time monitoring, optimiza\u00adtion, and decision-making.<\/p>\n

One of the key enablers of this shift is the SECS\/GEM proto\u00adcol (SEMI Equipment Com\u00admunication Standard\/Generic Equipment Model). Originally developed for the semiconduc\u00adtor industry, SECS\/GEM has become an established stand\u00adard for structured communica\u00adtion between equipment and factory IT systems.<\/p>\n

For Mar Srl., integrating SECS\/GEM into a grinding machine presented both a tech\u00adnical challenge and a strategic opportunity. Grinding machines are traditionally valued for their precision and reliability, but until now they had rarely been part of the highly standardized digital ecosystems seen in sem\u00adiconductors or electronics.<\/p>\n

Fagor Automation contributed its expertise in control systems, providing an advanced CNC platform capable of speaking SECS\/GEM natively.
