Description and objectives:
The POWER2POWER project brings together forty-three partners from eight countries to develop silicon-based electrical semiconductors with higher energy efficiency and electrical density. These technologies will increase the performance of a large number of applications, particularly in industry, mobility, grid and renewable energies. Together, they will contribute significantly to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, despite the fact that energy needs are steadily increasing on a global scale. POWER2POWER partners at different point in the value chain (wafer, semiconductors, and package, systems and applications manufacturers) will establish pan-European pilot lines with advanced aspects of industry 4.0 to develop innovative electrical electronic devices fit for the future. Priority will be given to silicon, which outperforms emerging with new materials with its high reliability and excellent price performance ratio. POWE2POWER will strengthen the predominant position of silicon-based electrical semiconductors in the global market over the next decade.
The objectives of POWER2POWER project are to foster a digitalized and holistic pilot line approach, accelerating the transition from ideas to innovations in the field of power electronic components and systems. In the course of this project, the international leadership of the European industry in this segment will be strengthened through pilot line approach along the supply chain located entirely in Europe; working together with multiple organizations, combining different disciplines and areas of expertise in the heterogeneous environment of power electronics. Only these integrated efforts will enable the achievement of high-volume production of smart power electronics to shift the market towards energy-efficient applications to meet the European Union’s carbon dioxide reduction targets.
