Description and objectives:

The CNC can be defined as the computer that governs all the systems needed by the machine tool system to carry out its production process. It is a product of high technical complexity and very versatile, as it can be used in a wide variety of processes (milling, turning, additive, laser, etc.), and in all of them with very strict requirements of execution in hard real time. These needs make the execution time of the algorithms incorporated in the CNC a critical indicator, which is taken into account when implementing new functionalities. Hence the interest in quantum technology and the possibility of exploring algorithms inspired by quantum methods as an option to reduce computation times on the CNC.

The main objective of this industrial research project carried out by FAGOR AOTEK is to investigate the application of quantum technologies to improve the algorithms of future controllers aimed at machining centres, and thus optimise performance, reducing their execution times.
