Description and objectives:

The aim of the AIDA project is to design and develop a new automatic and intelligent drive adjustment optimisation application for machine tools, incorporating the latest developments in control engineering carried out by FAGOR AOTEK in various research projects, as well as an important technological development in relation to the HMI. Likewise, a distributed architecture of the systems will be applied, promoting ease of connectivity between machines, technicians, customers and manufacturers.

On the one hand, it is intended that the knowledge acquired by each technician and accumulated in the adjustment files of each machine is incorporated into the auto-adjustment tool itself. On the other hand, and quite related to the above, the current tools, which are also incorporated in the CNC, do not have a mechanism that detects that there are new versions of the same, so that different variants coexist. This means that there are customers with functional versions but who do not take advantage of the latest developments. Today’s technology makes it possible, with the user’s consent, to keep applications up to date. This includes not only the application itself, but also the databases that allow an almost automatic parameterisation of many elements (e.g. data from new engines, encoders…).

Last but not least, the new HMI technologies, ported from the web environment, in addition to supporting the requirements of the previous paragraph in terms of ubiquity, connectivity… allow a very fine level of customisation of its components, allowing interfaces adapted even to the profile of a specific user.

In addition to this evolution of technologies and algorithms, which is leaving behind the monolithic applications typical of previous years, FAGOR AUTOMATION is modifying the user interface of its CNCs and this new interface and its very advanced aesthetics, which is being very well received, is leading to a demand from our customers that the set-up tools should also be updated.

The combination of this demand, the new developments in algorithms mentioned above and the need for a system that allows for simple and semi-automatic version upgrades (very important in terms of security) will be the main driving factors of this project.
